Actually, doing a small replacement PCB for uA726 isn't
a bad idea at all. Maybe the MAT-04 is a chip suited better
than the 3046, but it's single source only. In my Moog filter
I built in temperature compensation a la the National Semi
application note, based on 3046. This requires an LM329
temperature stabilized zener. Single source too, but replacements
are available.
On the uA726 topic: I have built a Formant with 6 VCO's, and
I've acquired a few extra back then for future VCO-expansions.
As things are now I think I won't build more Formant VCO's,
as I don't particularly like the design any more. (Using a
TTL Schmitt trigger was not great from the start, and another
source for temperature instability!) All in all, I have some
uA726 left as "backup". If YOU have a dear synth with a broken
uA726 then contact me. Please do not regard this as an offer
to sell uA726's to build new synths with, I don't have that
many to spare! I see in jbv's list that a total of 100 uA726
are wanted (at least), but I don't have that magnitude of them
by far. So, to REPAIR a broken synth, contact me.
