Building a simple modular system

Hi, I'm a new subscriber to this list and i was just wondering if anyone
could point me in the right direction to find info and circuit diagrams for
building a simple synth. I have experience of electronics, just not synths
so i would like to start with something simple so i can learn the basics and
then start to build the real stuff. I was hoping for a modular system with
all the basic circuits on but at the same time still being playable. Any
suggestions etc gratefully accepted. If anyone want to email me a zip with
