digital delays and cap question..

I now have four digital delay units (two racks, two pedals, all different
brands).  they all seem to use similar IC chip numbers.  is it possible to buy
"upgrade" chips and slap them in there to increase delay times? are there any
good ways to increase delay times? (add a resister or something?)

in anderton's super tone control, he calls for a "polystyrene" cap (I think).
I didn't have one, so I substitued a regular (disc I think) cap of equal value
in it's place.  would this have any adverse effects? (the tone control is
*still* not working)

as always, this list rocks....  oh yeah, and TomG... you don't except Visa by
any chance do you?
