I haven't done it but the place to look would be R333 for the Hi Tom. You
could replace this with a 100ohm resistor and 5k pot in series. *****I
haven't tried this. No guarantees, but if you have the 100ohm R you
shouldn't kill the 606. You may need to increase R334 to get the range you
want. You could do the same for Low tom. The 606 schematic is on the web.

You won't find an easier way to do it than with a pic. You could build a
pic programmer AND a MIDI-sync converter for less time and money than it
would take to build the Uart based MIDI-sync. IMHO of course. Or you could
buy the Blacet MIDI-sync chip.
