555 as pulse-wifth controller..ideas please...

While ago i had a similar idea, but instead of just one 555, a monostable 
for each step of the sequencer. I discounted it as even with the dual 556 
timer the chip count would be rather high, especially when combined with 
toms seq2. It would be pretty cool though, pitch and note duration 
controlled with knobs, ....
