Exp converters (silly idea?)

I've tried this (or something like, I don't remember well) years ago,
but I found that it needed a too high sampling (and sawtooth) frequency
to be usefull. But worked well with slow control voltages. The idea came
to me when read the Elektor PWM phaser article.

(P.S: the Elektor stabilized lin/log converter schem is still avaliable
in my site, at the download page. Did anyone already tried it?)
