pens & Newbie PCB ques..

I used to use pens to make my boards. I tried many. After a while, I noticed
that I really preferred to use Staedtler Lumocolor (I'm sure that's
misspelled!) #317 permanent marker in black. Always worked much better than
any other pens I could find. Thick ink, dries quickly, very durable in
etchant. I learned to slowly and smoothly, then you don't have to redo
anything (especially with this pen). My etching tank was a pyrex dish with a
bubble stone in the bottom (feed by an aquarium pump). Float the pcb on top,
copper side down. Worked fast, no undercutting (with good etchant, of
course)!
