O.K., I may be a masochist, but I etch all of my boards 
using Rat Shack direct etch transfers. These are a 
Letra-set type of rub-down transfer, and they come with 
patterns for runs between dip pads. After numerous uses, I 
have never had a problem with them at all. I use a resist 
pen only for fill of large areas or touch up. As I rarely 
make more than one or two of any board, this works well for 
me, although I certainly would not consider it for large 
numbers of boards. A little time consuming, but the results 
look very professional.
