Polystyrene capacitors

Hi List!

I am having difficulty getting some of the polystyrene caps required for the 
Digisound VCDO, well the 10pf to be exact. I could get one from RS but as I 
don't have an account I don't want to pay 4ukp p&p on one component (or any 
order for that matter!)

Can the polystyrene caps be substituted for other equivalents;
ceramic disc
multilayer resin dipped
etc

or are certain characteristics needed?
