What is unhappy about your implementation? symptoms?
Even a very small amount of noise or particularly hum (like a few
milivolts) in one input will produce an irritating apparent
bleedthrough if there is a continuous steady tone in the second input.
To get zero out, you REALLY need zero in, as the human ear can pick out
continuous tones even when you can only see the noise floor on a scope.
