On the contrary, it **IS** good business sense, if the old synth is 
economically unrepairable. I recently swapped a MemoryMoog for a scope,
but on pure financial grounds I could prob have made more money from
selling the chips. Plenty of cars are worth more dead than alive, why not
synths?
The **moral** question is a different matter ;-)
