bad precision pot?

Yes, I remember now, I guess it was B. Pease in "Troubleshooting".

Sure. Therefore use them for dc only. But they are precise, my (linear)
test oscillator can be tuned very precisely.  A hard fist punch on the
table (everything jumps) won't make any frequency change (inside the
normal phase noise band, of course), even if the brake is not active.

But uncle Bob didn't write about these panel types, I think.
