first-time synth project

hello there, everyone. I'm new at building synths myself and I
just completed a VCO module as the first part I've built after the power
supply. Is there a way to test if what I've done works so far?

I've tried hooking the output & ground to my mic input on the
computer and listening/amplifying the signal but I can't get anything out
of it, at least at such a level that I could tell.

It's basically the same VCO used on Tom G.'s mini4CV project on
his website (mindspring.com/~vco) if that helps. The power supply is well
filtered.

Additionally I'm almost sure I'll need some test equipment by the
time I really get into building other things- what is the bare minimum I'd
need to being able to troubleshoot a circuit I've already built rather
than just throw it away if it doesn't work right? :) Thanks for any help
you can give. I'm doing this on a very limited (read: college student's)
budget and I don't want to build any other modules/units until I know what
might be wrong or even how to test it. Thanks a ton- I know this is way
below the typical level of discussion here but any help is appreciated.

	andy
