Seems you'd eventually end up with a contraption resembling
the Lost In Space robot...

I have a neat 'backburner' idea which would involve a trigger interface /
sequencer (like for a drum machine...)  which would trigger little
electrical relays so as to produce a electrically controlled mechanical
percussion (like the hammer on a alarm bell...)

Anyways, you suspend a whole bunch of metallic JUNK on a big steel frame,
pots, springs, pan lids, etc. and you put 8 (or however many ) hammer
mechanisims on various areas.  Now you get a few contact mics, and place
them in strategic places, and voila:  You have a very noisy but very
controllable percussive contraption, the idea being that it would kind of
act like a giant spring reverb...
