I was checking out some web pages yesterday for info about these
new or old modulars wich are still being made, like Serge and Doepfer.
I've found three manufacturers; Serge, Doepfer and some Dutch guys who
were formely Synton now making the FENIX modular.
Now I wondered, is that all?
Also, Doepfer seems to be the only one which will sell you module by
module not some 30 modules and then pay $4000 for it or something like
Serge does. And that sure is problematic because I don't want to buy
a module and that in some time expand and so on and pay shipment for
it each time. Doepfer isn't going to be the one I think because of the
lower price/quality they're offering, I'd rather have good and less
for
much than much for less but no good:)
Now what about the FENIX, it's in Holland, it's good
(equivalent to Serge or better some say),it's cheap and it's in
Holland,
and I live there Hurray! BUT... it's one piece, I don't know if
they're
going to make more modules, they don't have a waveshaper ;( and
haven't
got lot's of other goodies Doepfer has.
So does anyone know of other manufactures who; 1)Are making top
quality
products 2)Are seated in Europe 3) Offer a broad range of modules 5)
Don't use any components wich will be out of stock (Doepfer isn't
making
the A111 high end vco because of the CEM3340 used in them) 6) Will
continue for a longer period of time?
Another thing; Does anyone know of a slew limiter which slews at a
very
high frequencies, e.g. slewing vco output making a sine from a square?
I was originally considering Doepfer untill I found out they didn't
make
theire A111 anymore and that the sound quality of the modules was good
but not great.
I would go for Serge if they weren't in the USA. I still wonder if it
isn't cheaper to just go to the US for the holidays, have some fun and
buy some toys out there:)
Later,
Paul
