Thanks, a Request, and a Question...

Hey all,
Sorry for the densely packed message, but I figure I might as well knowck
off a few issues in one go. Anyways...
First, a belated thanks to all of you who helped advise me re the right
poly synth for me. Exams and end-of-year activities have kept me on a low
mail profile lately. Anyways, thanks again! For those keeping tabs (yeah,
right!) I'm probably going to part with my Sup-Jup and DAT machine and
pickup a late model OB-8, hopefully with a couple CEM spares in case she
blows up. (BTW, how often and under what circumstances do CEMs go kablooie?
What would be a safe long term emergency package for an Obie?)
Now, a little bit of a request. I have a fellow DIYer locally who was an
avid reader and collector of EN, but in the late 80s some of his issues
went missing. There was a circuit in there that he built (and later
foolishly parted with) that he would love to re-build (or for those crazies
out there into C-sound or whatever, re-create in DSP). The circuit was
called a "Matthews Box", apparently a whole wonk o' very narrow BP filters
with a very hi resonance, tuned very specifically to some bizarre equation
that BH devised. Anyways, if anyone has this article around and would be
able to pass it along, my friend would be greatly appreciative. This won't
be costing Bernie any funds, as this individual indeed owned this issue
(among stacks of others).
And finally, the question. Does anybody know of a reasonable substitute
for the transistors and vactrol devices in the Korg Resonator Filter? It
sounds like a rather unique beast to build, and doesn't look TOO complex
from the schems, but those crazy parts!!
Thanks in advance,
Gavin Muir
