Modern analogue architecture OR anyone wanna open their FR777 and take a look for me?

well parts of the Jomox are analog, & i opened one of the very few in
Australia, it was surface mount, FPGA it looked like for the digital
logic/control,
a separate micro for the MIDI, and the nicest little analog stuff as well.
Everything is going surface mount, suits automatic assembly, increases
reliability
(if done right). Many standard chips no longer available in DIP.

The trouble as I see it for using DSP as a platform for DIY is that ther are
many
different chips, and not even eg the successive Motorola DSP chips have much
in common
programming wise... I dont want to learn even ONE programming language, and
if i did,
I'd be doing stuff on a PC which with a floating processor and extensions
has more
grunt anyway, for some apps...

I would say that anything commercial HAS to be surface mount today.
But, my boxes are all hand made DIP by my trusty assistant... because I'm a
sadist...
