Dumb MIDI question

Here is a slightly off-topic question about MIDI.

I want to drive an analog device of my own (more on this subject when
it's finished) from a
MIDI sequencer.
That device will output various CVs, and I want to be able to start
output, stop it, resume output
from where it stopped or from the beginning.
The first idea that comes to mind is to use the system realtime messages
START, STOP and
CONTINUE. However, my MIDI sequencer (Studio Vision - old version)
doesn't seem to
allow such messages to be included in a regular MIDI track.

So, the question is :

A - is it the same with other sequencers ?

B- I've been thinking of using another method, with Note-ON for Start,
and Note-OFF for Stop;
but then, how do I do Continue ?

C- Any better suggestion on how this could be achieved ? Sysex, may be ?
