They look cute but probably not entirely suitable for front panels. There
is a stuff like Press 'n' peal, can't remember the name off hand. However
it is kinda like an overhead transparency sheet but it has a sticky
backing. You run it through a lazy printer and then peal off the backing
and stick it down. It would probably be more useful than this stuff. I'll
see if I can find a sheet with a useful product name on it for you. Only
WARNING! You can't use this stuff in anything except a lazy printer.

Most likely. Electroplating is nasty and somewhat expensive stuff. The gold
solution used is mega-bux. Gold plating is really only useful where you
want to plate the contacts of card fingers etc. I use to have it done by a
tame jeweler here some years back but that's all by the by now. In theory
you could build a small electro-plater easy enough. I've never done it
myself but the principal is pretty simple. You just need a tank, some
current and some voltage. Though the exact details I forget. I've always
thought about building one but then it would be just another bit of kit to
clutter my house with.
Hope this helps.
