Martin,
Apparently the early Eventide Harmonizers used an SSB circuit to 
generate the data in and data out clocks for the RAM addressing circuit. 
A fixed freq clock is fed to one input, and a variable "pitch shift 
amount" clock is fed to the other input, producing 2 clocks displaced 
+/- from the original clock freq. Don't know what this would be good for 
nowadays.
