Speaking of, I got the new Perry Cook psychoacoustics book (can't
remember the name, it's on a bookshelf in the other room and I'd have to
get up out of this chair and it's been a long day and I went on a long
walk...). Not as great as I'd thought it would be. Pretty much the
exact material from the course at Stanford. Unfortuantely, the course
was taught for the psychology majors, instead of more technical
disciplines. What this amounts to: If you don't know the material, it is
a great introduction. If you know the material, it doesn't have much
more to give you. Admittedly, this is a based on a quick read-through,
but I would recommend a more technical book if you know a fair amount
about psychoacoustics already.

This is part of my "a book should have relevance on multiple
read-throughs, especially if it is hard cover" philosophy. Books like
"Elements of Computer Music" by F. Richard Moore score high on this
list. Probably the highest scorer on the list is Electronotes, which can
be read and reread, yielding new info each time.
