Hi Gene:
I'm sorry to hear that your tutorial wasn't a rewarding experience. I did
find the internal description of the OTA very useful. I did get a bit bogged
down around the bottom of page two (where you suggested a new type of OTA)
since this seemed to be directed towards the EEs on the list (ie, out of my
league). I guess with tutorials and FAQs, we users all to often don't bother
to think of the amount of work the author has put in to them.
When I suggested this as being a good use of introductory DIY space I was
thinking specifically of your OTA tutorial, the (extremely helpful) capacitor
FAQ, and the "what do I need to get started?" FAQ that is (was?) at the
Synthtech site. I'm sure there are others that I can't remember at the moment.
I still think that a programmed tutorial geared specifically to the needs of
the audio and synth building novice is a worthwhile project, but I can
understand that it might not be worth it to the author if their work was not
given adequate appreciation. However, I would be very interested in your
insights into opamps, VCOs, and expo converters, etc.
John B.
BTW, I'm really enjoying the thread on sound and perception, I now see why
Martin was asking for recent books on psychoacoustics a few weeks ago.
