I see your point, but don't you think that such a site could be also used for
maintenance of old gear ?

Are you sure ? Consider the Elektor Formant for instance : this whole modular
(basic modules AND
extensions) is based around 15 different ICs only, and a handful of very common
transistors.
The amount of ICs for the Digisound modules might be similar (or even less).
Besides, a few yrs ago, Elektor has published a book that gathers the datasheets
that are supposed to be
usefull to the average electronic hobbyist. It features :
- 85 linear ICs (audio and general purpose)
- 75 CMOS logic
- 90 TTL logic.
Of course, it's not really difficult to find datasheets on the net. But I
thought it would be handy to have
the most often used ones on the same site as the schematics, especially for
newbies (who wouldn't have
to waste time looking for bits and pieces of info)...
