Yes, something like that. I don't know if linear or exp response would
be better, since I never tried. Perhaps exp, for a "reverb-type"
envelope.

This would be the best way to go, I think, because it could be used with
any synth then. But for polyphony, the controller data had to be
translated into polyphonic aftertouch. Then another note could be
started when the previous note is still sounding in its release phase.
BTW, there's a very interesting mailing list for Wind Controller users.
