Yeah, there's plenty of copies ogf the VCDO in the EPROM archive
:-))...Paul did an alternative PCB of the original circuit that had a
seven-segment readouts for the table and wave read out too.....I know Paul
has goen through any number of revisions of the HS-VCO, mostly cos he
wanted a really fast one to drive his massively revamped VCDO that used
the PPG Wave data (needs a 64x clock not a 16x clock) and his universal
EPROM sample playback unit too....he's really into his 8-bit hybrid stuff,
he's got circuits that play back most any drum sample on EPROM, but hwe
wants to change the 555 clocks for 1V/Oct VCO's so as to use them to play
back other things too.....
Personally I think that you can use the ASM-1 to drive the VCDO cos it only
needs a 16x clock (4 octaves up) and the sounds are at their best in the
lower mid......don't get tempted to change the 741 on the output for a
TL071 or anything else that's any good as an op-amp, it does quite a good
job of stopping clock-breakthough cos it's too slow to see it...:-))
Honestly....we spent some time feeding it every op-amp in the box once, and
it sounds really harsh if you put a fast op-amp in there....(cue sounds of
the purists on the list retching in the corner)....
