Doug,
Try to get a copy of Tom Henry's "Analog Drum Cookbook" for some really
neat and simple building block circuits for percussion (Tom runs Midwest
Analog Products). It's a nicely done little spiral bound booklet. Tom also
sells a couple of nice analog drum modules (haven't built mine yet). He's
on the verge of publishing an analog cymbal circuit on his page as well.
Also check the Paia web page for some simple drum circuits including a CV
option for oscillator FM on the common twin-T circuit. I would think this
would be a great way to get bootstrapped.
If you can find them, a couple of the Polyphony issues had percussion
circuit articles--two to note are the "Hip Bass Drum" circuit designed by
Craig Anderton and the "Snare+" by Tom Henry (it uses the extremely rare
SN76477 IC). I think Paia still has some of the back issues.
Good luck!
Doug
