By the time you have made one of the boxes, it's worth using the same 
mechanism for the other ckts, even if it makes little sense.. it would be 
silly to make an 'optical shutter' box just for the wah.

You can put a magnet and hall detector near each other (say 5 mm) and move 
a piece of iron (say 2mm thick) between them to vary the mag field.
You can rotate a magnet too, to vary the field.
