There has been a lot of work on a new MIDI standard by all the big
hitters, especially Yamaha Corp. and Stanford University. There hasn't
been a whole lot of news on it lately, but I've heard rumblings of
indecision on a hardware front. Backwards compatibility, however is in the
bag, at least from a software standard.

On August 1, 1997, the American Indian, Eskimo and Aleut population in the
United States stood at 2.3 million, or 0.9 percent of the total population.
