I can't see any difference between this and a pot, except if you are 
relying on the friction in the pot to keep the pedal in place when
you take your foot off. You can tighten a pedal to fix this.
Ther is that 'friction increasing' grease for a start.

Of course, if you are doing something cute like put a magnet in your 
shoe sole and soft shoe shuffle over the hall device, then it's not
staying in place when you go.
i'm really spewing, because I got a bag of Ungar linear hall devices..
and lost the bastards somewhere in my workroom 3 years (and 2 moves) ago.
I reallyy miss them.
