Obsolete parts

This question is somewhat related to the recent discussion about
discontinued items (3046 and
such)...

In a datasheet for the DAC ZN426E-8 that I picked up recently somewhere
on the web, the
front page says that this item should be used for maintenance only and
not for new design,
as if its production had been stopped...
However, it is fully available from several component resellers around
here...

Any info on that ?
