DIY standards II

DIY - Do it yourself, the way you want.
Standard - Let someone else tell you what to do.

Now which one do I choose....hummmm, let me think
about that for a microsecond.

Wouldn't "standards" be anti-diy? When we get a newbe
and he needs help we start offering less-than diy solutions.
Like "this is how I did it" or "this is how ___ did it" ,right up
to the ultimate anti-diy solution "buy the kit".

There are people who would rather you bought their whatever
instead of "wasting your time to diy". "It'll never be as good"
as theirs. BS! What that means is you'll never learn anything,
you'll never get any better and therefore it will never be as
good as theirs. Gaining knowledge is never a waste of time.
Even if you're unsuccessful in your effort you have gained
knowledge.

If standards were imposed it would open the door for complaints
when the standard was not met.

Not everyone has the same software, computers, or skill level.
If someone had an idea he wanted to share but couldn't
conform to the standard, we would never see it.

There are already plenty of standards in place without us
adding new ones just for us.

I know this must seen strange coming from someone who
tries so hard to meet and be consistent with a personal
standard. But I did this by choice not by force. I have no
problem with anyone adopting something I've done. Truth is,
I borrow all the time. However, I wouldn't want to impose
anything I've done on anyone; much less let anyone tell me
how I must do something.

I am working on the M5, it will be a two board set containing
everything I've learned so far. These boards will not fit behind
a frac-rack panel. Does this mean when I finish them I should
not share them with the list? Why would I want to have to
stop to consider something like this?

If you want a standard how's this " We will in good faith share
and consider all synth-diy efforts as they are presented." It's
the standard this list was built on. Pretty damm good too.
