I think you're reading too much into this, Andrew. I can't speak for Harry,
but I don't see the introduction of loose, informal standards as being a
creativity stifler, or as an attempt to exclude anyone's designs or
efforts. Instead, I see it as a means to make DIY easier for those of us
who - for whatever reason - can't do everything needed to build an
instrument. It's an extension of your efforts, not something that needs to
interfere with them.
