Hi All,
I know this is a bit off topic, so if any replies could be forwarded to my
account directly that would help keep the OT traffic on the list down.
Again, apologies to all.
Well, I'm about to get started on my small modular project, but I'm also
thinking about changing my polys around in the studio. I've been through a
number of synths, Jupiters to Prophets, but haven't got the sound I want
(which I suspect is the one synth I have never owned; an Oberheim OB). I
have unloaded a fair amount of my equipment in the last while, but have
kept my MKS-80. I think I would like to move this and get an OB, however
its difficult to really tell if this is what I'm looking for; I was
disappointed with the Prophet 5 I picked up awhile back for example.
For those OB or Jupiter users out there, am I really getting that better a
synthesizer to warrant the effort? My main interest for a poly is for pads,
brass etc.; pretty much the staple stuff, so a lack of cross-mod isn't a
problem. What the MKS lacks is what I would describe as a certain
"liveliness" in the sound, even with the filter somewhat closed; lots of
life to saw pads etc., almost a bright grittiness that percs under the
surface.
Any suggestions my fellow DIYers can offer would be GREATLY appreciated so
I don't broke myself on another disappointment. I realize this is quite a
subjective area.
Cheers, thanks, and apologies again,
Gavin Muir
