   I just came across a web site with some interesting discussions
   and schematics for doing guitar amp cabinet simulations, much
   more elaborate than the current slew of commercial products.

Yeah, he's done some very interesting research.

It's a real kick in the head to realize that the boxy speaker
characteristics that make for bad hifi (internal reflections, box
resonance, back wave cancellation from the open back, low end rolloff
from the box size, speaker frequency response abberrations, high end
rolloff from no tweeter, etc.) sound so good on an electric guitar.  

After all an electric guitar is sort of like an acoustic guitar
without the uh... box!
