There's a guy in the Netherlands (Pieter Suurmond) that has
designed an incredibly simple octal analog-midi converter.
>From his webpage:

>> In the summer of 1996 I developed an inexpensive 8-channel
>> analog to MIDI convertor. It was designed to process (slowly
>> changing) voltages between 0 and 5 volt. The apparatus
>> continuously samples these signals and outputs them as 8 MIDI
>> controller values (between 0 and 127). It can be build for
>> around $30!

It's not perfect but, it is clever! Check it out:

(why does the phat boy encode 13 knobs)

>Hi everybody,

>Something like the enormous DX7 controller, or the specific controllers for
>many roland synths (from the mks80 to the d550).
>Probably too slow for live performance, but useful enough for programming

>HHHHmmmmm, it should work in both modes: handshaking, one way only.

>Silly idea?
