CR68 mods?

Has anyone out there in AH/Synth-DIY land modified a Roland CR68?
(the little brother of the CR78; no user defined patterns; predecessor
to the 808).

There's one in a pawnbroker nearby and I'm considering seeing if I can
pick it up cheap and modify it for individual outs (should be easy)
and CV triggers on each sound (may not be so easy).

Any general hints for doing this sort of thing?

Am I committing sacriledge by modifying it? :-)
