How about a Tom-ified tri-phase? Either each phaser will have its own
LFO, or the three phasers will be run by two LFOs, each with 3 outputs
that are 120 degrees out of phase, a la the Solina chorus.
As for HM-2 type distortion, that would be cool. Do you have the HM-2
schematics? I think the mightiest of bands, Slint, used the HM-2 for
their distortion. (As always, I have to recommend that everyone on this
list go out and buy "Spiderland" by Slint RIGHT NOW. No synths, just
the best album of all time, along with "Here Come the Warm Jets" by
Brian Eno and "Songs About Fucking" by Big Black.)
Getting back to the phaser, I'll try the Serge Tcherepnin LM3900-based
phasing circuit this weekend. Might be nice for really simple phaser
designs. Otherwise, using op-amps and 4069 FETS could be good.
Alternately, have you seen the ARP Quadra phaser? It uses a strange
variation of the Moog ladder, based on multiple 3086 transistor arrays.
If you haven't seen it, I'll scan it in and put it up ASAP on my new web
site (URL is still in transition). Perhaps it could be simplified to
use less stages, & multiple phasers could be used in a single module. It
would probably run on 3046 arrays just fine, which seem to be easier to
get.
