....why yes!
One of the top synths, as you say, is the MS20.
Speaking to people with MS20s, almost always what they 'couldn't live
without' is the external audio processor, which gives a gate and cv.
Now I know it isn't perfect, and I know it CANT be perfect (see all the
stuff on pitch extraction in Electronotes etc).
But, it shouldn't be TOO hard to make one that works as well as the MS20..
Why I want one, is that it means you can take a $20 gasrage sale kbd and
generate a flute sound or something, run it into the audio to cv
convertor, and VIOLA! there is your keyboard..... use a tiny kiddie kbd if
you want!
And, with the MS20, running percussion in can give stuff that is too much
even for
the Heavy Metal kids!
The lp filter in the MS20 extractor has from memory a 4 gang pot(!!!) but
that isn't
a problem, using a swithched cap filter or just OTA's.
GO FOR IT TOM!

By the way, I was once called to a studio in an 'emergency' because the
midi-cv convertor
they had wouldn't drive a MS20... I just set a spare M1 to give a pure tone,
ran that into
the MS20 ext in, and drove the MS20 patch off that...
