Maybe you could find something nearly free, like a chair base with
casters (or without). I use the pedestals from old discarded tape
machines for studio racks. I got some long black melamine shelves from a
home improvement warehouse and bolted those to the mounting flanges.
Then I put rack rails on the inside surfaces of the shelves (ok, I used
cheap wood cuz I can't find rack rails cheap enough) and I just mounted
the gear. Voila! And I can adjust the angle too! People practically give
away their old tape machines. (I scored two good Ampex units this way) I
plan to mount my mac in one of these pedestals, only I'll build a box
within a box with a layer of foam rubber to absorb the shocks during
transport.
