What the hell are you buying ? My partner just bought a G3 minitower
300mhz with a 21" monitor for about $2600.

Not enough to be concerned about.

I only seem to crash with Studio Vision when I do something stupid, like
locking to SMPTE, editing digital audio, saving and rewinding all at the
same time. Seriously, I sequence just about everyday, 12-15 hours a day
in sessions and rarely do I crash. Most times it's due to bizzare
timecode garbage from multitrack machines in rewind.

Don't know. Probably apples and oranges.

Depends what you want to run.

Some companies might have a platform trade-in policy. It's worthj asking
about.
