No, actually, I dont think it is a dumb idea at all.. It would be cool to
drive a sample with a true VCO, and I think this is what the Jomox Sunsyn
does, cept it allows you to drive it either off of a processor generated
clock or from a VCO generated clock. 
I truly think it would be easier just to go uPD to D/A to VCO to ROM table.
I dont get what you mean by slew it though.. do you mean filter the noise
out of the ROM?
