Superseque mods

There are a few "features" that have crept into my mods to the
superseque design. When
the output stages are a result of the exclusive-or of the clock output
and the VC stage select
ADC, the normal mechanism of reseting the count at "length" (and at
stage one when using
up/down mode) doesn't work. For example, if I have length set to four,
and apply a voltage
that produces 0001 at the output of stage select, the stage order would
be 2,1,4,3. However,
when stage four is selected it will reset the counter and the actual
sequence will be 2,1,4. It's
even worse in up/down mode.

So now I'm considering adding a second 4514. One would be used as per
the original design, and
would only be used to select length via a rotary switch and provide
reset/up/down. The second one
would be addressed by the exclusive-or's and used to control the
selected output stage.

Does this seem like a reasonable approach? Any suggestions?

The other "feature" is that length will only select the number of stages
and not necessarily
the last. This means for example that if I have a length of eight and 0
volts into the stage
select, stages 1-8 will play, but when I apply a voltage corresponding
to 1111, the actual
sequence will be 16,15,14,...,9. This seems like it might be useful,
allowing a sixteen stage
sequencer to work as two eights.
