A good place to start is with Craig Andertons _Electronic Projects For
Musicians_.
You can get it here (http://www.paia.com/epfm.htm). He explains the basics
and presents useful projects to build.

After reading this and building a few projects, you can buy kits from:

http://www.paia.com
http://www.synthtech.com
http://metro.net/blacet/music.html
http://Prairie.Lakes.com/~map/

After getting the hang of things you can start building from schematics you
find on
the Net.

Of course eventually want to understand the theory of things. More books...

_Art of Electronics_, Horowitz, Hill

I've also found Don Lancaster's "cookbook" series to be inspiring;
CMOS Cookbook, Active Filter Cookbook, Opamp cookbook.

And Bob Pease's _Troubleshooting Analog Circuits_
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0750694998/qid%3D909675160/002-3153336-5585658

Hope this helps,
Thomas
