Maybe i'm weird, but...
I use cheapo iron i bought for a price of 2 burgers
with 2mm in diameter copper wire coming out of it and power (not temp)
regulator.
I managed to succesfully solder TSSOP packages (0.65 mm lead pitch) with it.
For thru-hole boards I use transformer solderer (is that how u call it?)
