How about http://www.paia.com/ek7.htm

This is a very clever 4-bit flash converter.
The text says that it is good to 1KHz or so.
I bet with more modern comparitors, you could get this up quite a bit
higher.

I'm in the planning stages for a sequencer based loosely on
the Superseque. My first planned addition is voltage controlled
stage select exclusive-or'ed with the clock stage select. This
allows you to select any order of stages. For example, when
the output of the 4 bit ADC is 0x0F (1111), the clock output will
count thru the stages from 16 to 1:

Clock ADC Xor
0000 1111 1111
0001 1111 1110
0010 1111 1101

etc.

Every possible order of stages can be selected with the VC stage
select input. I haven't found a good (cheap and fast) ADC yet.
I would like to find something that would work in the audio
range. Anyone have any suggestions?
