I noticed this too. I think the power consumption is larger than in the
ususal digital
application where there is almost no current thrugh the two internal
mosfets (only if there are transients). But here we drive both transistors
into on-mode.
Similar like in a class A compared to class B power stages.
Lowering the powersupply helps. The circuit is intended for 5V!
