Time to write a few notes about the progress of my HiFli experiments:
(1) Phaser board is finished. All the interesing other modes (waa, waw,
meow) are working, too.
(2) Modulation generator is finished, too. All 6 modes of the original.
The ramps and LFO are nice, the enveloped LFO is more just a gimmick,
IMO. Interesting feature: when the CV comes near its upper and lower
limits: Before it is (finally) clipped, the slope is *increased* (not
decreased,
as one might expect), so there is an extra "punch" with exaggerated corners
at very high modulation depth.
(3) I started to build the envelope detector. FW rectifier with treble
boost,
then a logarithmic (!) stage to compress the envelope, plus 4-pole filter.
This will detect start and stop of a note over a wide dynamic range ...
(4) If everything works as well as it does so far, I'm going to build the
whole
HiFli, and not just the Phaser. Should fit onto 3 eurocards (I'a at 1 1/2
now),
and into a 1U 19" enclosure if I use rotary knobs. Unfortunately I don't
play
the guitar, but either it will turn out useful for processing organ and
synth
sounds as well, or I have to sell it to a guitarist - time will tell.
