New url:
The synth-diy unofficial archive has (partly) a new home, for reasons of
organization. I simply don't want to bother friendly people - who give
me disk space - with frequent updates. OTOH without updates an archive
is near to useless.
I decided to call it now The Synth DIY Grey Pages, well it contains
a lot of information like the yellow pages, but is is grey, not yellow ;->.
The new url is at my homepage: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Museum/4459/
and then under DIY - DIY Grey Pages.
For people who don't like frames it's simply
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Museum/4459/grey_pages/grypag_index.html
Please update your bookmarks. Sorry for the inconveniance.
That's the new url part.
Update:
The update contains the following:
1.
All available information about the mail traffic is now online, ie.
1995-Sep. 1998. I have further refined and debugged my software to
compress the raw data into a more readable format. I've double checked
that none of the available "real" data is lost by this process. (It
took such a long time, because every mail tool on the world seems to
add another type of garbage into the mail body, so I had to addapt
the algorithm several times. Then I had to discover that my program
could not deal with non-US-ascii characters, well I had to dig down
into my c routines till I finally noticed that the c macro "tolower"
was responsible for that...)
2.
The mail messages appear in a regular format. First we have the "date:",
"from:", "subject:" fields, then one or more "to:" fields. Then comes
the mail body, the message. Due to this regular structure it should be
easy to postprocess the archive files (e.g. search tool).
3.
Since the mail body is not touched, included mails are also displayed
as is, witch all garbage. Included attachments are also not touched.
4.
The mails are ordered by time, but no attempt was made to enshure a
strict ordering.
5.
There is currently one known problem: Some mails had no "to:" field,
if this is the case, the "cc:" information is also lost. Only a few
strange mails suffer from this bug.
6.
It is recommended to reload the archive files.
7.
Last but not least: All mentioned links from 1995-1997 were visitied
(about 600), those who are still active and usefull were sorted into
some ordering scheme. The 1998 links will follow soon.
At the moment there is no tool for searching the archive files.
Any volunteers (C-code, please) ?
Any other comments ?
m.c.
p.s.:
No, I'm not stupid. I'm interested in this work, because
I would have done this anyway, cause I've lost the orientation in all
this data. It was not easy to find things before. I do all this work
on my day job, I use all kind of breaks (morning, lunch etc.) and I
stay longer then usuall. The normal work goes on without any delay.
Thank you.
