Hello list,
remember the mail I posted about the pioneer of EM, Herbert Eimert?
There was some interest, but I recently lost the mails about that.
And now I've plugged in a CD-Recorder into my PC....
So again:
This was 1954 to 1962, tubes were still ruling, vocoders were huge
like 1.0 m x 1.5 m x 0.5m and needed 500 Watt. There is a record on
which Eimert explains what EM is to be (his perspective at that time),
and lots of sound examples (from "sine"-waves to minute pieces). The
speech/music ratio is , say, 50% (from my head). I think that this record
is still amazing, even today. And even if you don't like the music,
it is still inspiring what these people made at that time. I don't have
an analogue record player, so I draw me a copy of that record on CD.
You can get a taste of that under my home page
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Museum/4459/index.html
under Eimert samples, of course in bad 8-bit .wav quality, I have to save
storage.
Ok, I want to remove that .wav sooner or later, and instead I could now
provide a CD with the whole stuff in a much better quality.
I want to make clear that:
THE ORIGINAL RECORD SEEMS TO BE HARD TO GET, I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE ANY
PROFIT HERE, THIS IS FOR "EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE" ONLY. I EARN ENOUGH MONEY
IN MY DAY JOB, I DON'T NEED TO SELL CDs TO FEED MY MOUTH.
What do you get:
-a CD in jewel box with a front inlay (to be designed, probably a photo
of Eimert) and a back inlay with all 50 tracks named (this is ready).
-I made the effort to cut the audio stream into about 50 tracks, so very
fast access to any example or explanation is possible.
-I removed some of the larger "cracks" of the analogue record.
The record was in good condition, I think the original tapes were the
limiting factor.
-I could provide an English translation of the spoken text, if there
is a larger demand
What you don't get:
-the original source is a vinyl LP, so there is hiss and some cracks (though
the record was in very good condition)
-the music comes frome early tapes (1954), there is distortion
and hiss
-the comments and explanations of Eimert are of course in German, interesting
that he managed to make a very clear and professional recording of his
text (being not a professional speaker)
-the track titles that I invented are also German, but this could be changed
-the CD might not be red book compatible in all aspects. But I have a
worst case player at home (portable, very picky), if a CD plays on this
machine without problems, I made the experience that it will play everywhere
else. I've tested my home made CDs on portables, modern 3-beamers, and
CD-ROM drives. No problems, even audio grabbing at 4x speed worked.
-the inlets und CD label are made with HP870 inkjet, they look good,
but not as good as a professional silk screen or offset something.
I think that about 20 DM (plus shipment) is a fair price for all the work.
Remember, each CD is burned "by hand", then the label is printed,
the inlays are printed, and finally assembled, all by hand. The raw
material cost is about 7 DM allready.
I'll do the whole job only once, if you are interested, let me know.
Please do not mail to the list, use only my mail address !!!
Definitive Deadline: Monday, 30 Nov 1998, 15:00 , my local time.
