Writing midi device drivers

Ok, all this talk about writing MIDI code for Windows has got me
thinking. Has anyone written MIDI device drivers? A number of years ago
I designed and built what was to be multiport midi interface that
connects to the PC via the parallel port. I got it working by hacking a
commercial midi driver, but the driver only supported Win3.1 standard
mode. I have the Win95 DDK but I haven't found sample code that does
multiple input and output ports and also is multi-client.

Any suggestions? Sample code?

Thanks,
Jon Lloyd
